FREE SPEECH IN CYBERSPACE

Last Modified  Nov. 15, 2003

This two credit seminar considers the legal and policy questions arising from the borderless and relatively open communication channels of cyberspace.

The instructors, Professors Leslie Ann Reis and Doris E. Long, will lead an examination of a variety of free speech issues as applied to the Internet and new media technologies through discussions, hypotheticals, student presentations and perhaps a guest lecture or two.

Discussion topics include First Amendment interpretations in the global digital environment, media practices in accessing personal or proprietary information in cyberspace, using the Internet to supplant or supplement traditional media dissemination and the tension between free speech and intellectual property rights.
